The regal tang will reach its bright yellow tail into intricate coral branches and use the branches as leverage to anchor itself. When an intruder threatens to drag it out of the coral, it will "play dead" by tilting to one side while still hooked onto the coral. This behavior has earned it the odd nickname "hanging fish."
