If we only go by the name "Blue Riverdamselfly," it's easy to assume that any damselfly that fits the "blue" description belongs to the same species. In reality, there's the blue riverdamselfly and the azure damselfly — two completely different species that look almost identical. Theoretically, the easiest way to tell them apart is by their native habitats. However, as geographical boundaries for species exchange blur, genetic analysis is the most reliable method.
